Ekaterina Litvintseva grew up in Anadyr in north-eastern Russia on the Bering Sea. She has had an unconventional musical career. With passion and ease, she took her first piano lessons at a young age at the local music school. At the age of 15, she moved to Moscow to study
at the State Chopin Conservatoire, which had a particular influence on the emotional side of her piano playing. After moving to Germany, she continued her studies at the Cologne University of Music and Theatre and subsequently pursued her training in Würzburg, where she took part in Bernd Glemser’s masterclass. There, she came to appreciate a new, more analytical approach to piano playing and, drawing on her experiences in Russia, developed her highly personal piano style. Ekaterina Litvintseva was also particularly influenced by renowned pianists including Robert Kulek, Rudolf Kehrer and Andrzej Jasinski, with whom she attended masterclasses on several occasions after completing her studies.
Ekaterina Litvintseva has recorded a total of nine CDs for the German label Profil and the Dutch label Piano Classics. These CDs feature music by Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Franck, Strauss, Rachmaninov and Pejacevic. With her album *Rachmaninov – Early Piano Works: The Depth of the Unspoken*, she has proven herself to be a magnificent interpreter of Rachmaninov, who knows how to captivate “with great sensitivity and with surprising interpretative power and depth” (Concerti). On the new CD *Turning Point*, one can once again experience her sensitivity to and connection with the composer’s music. She demonstrated her versatility not least through live recordings of piano concertos by Mozart, Chopin and Brahms, made in collaboration with the Klassische Philharmonie Bonn under the baton of Heribert Beissel. The reviews were all highly laudatory and full of praise: the three CD recordings impressed with their transparency and lightness rather than expressive virtuosity and exaggerated pathos: “a remarkable moment in the history of Chopin interpretation” (Fanfare), “a sense of spontaneous invention” in Mozart’s Piano Concerto K271 (Gramophone) and “an expressive depth” in Brahms’s First Piano Concerto (BBC Music Magazine).
Among the leading orchestras with which Ekaterina Litvintseva has performed are the Symphony Orchestra for the Next Generation in Seoul, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Banatul Philharmonic, the Arad Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, the North-West German Philharmonic, the Klassische Philharmonie Bonn, the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen and the Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice. Ekaterina Litvintseva performs to great acclaim in world-famous concert halls such as the Lotte Hall in Seoul, the Liederhalle in Stuttgart, the Beethovenhalle in Bonn, the Meistersingerhalle in Nuremberg, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Grand Theatre in Rabat, the Arsonic Concert Hall and the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire.
In the spring of 2025, the Piano Classics label will release her latest CD featuring works by Rachmaninoff, including the famous Corelli Variations and the Piano Sonata No. 2. In November and December 2025, Ekaterina Litvintseva will be performing throughout the Netherlands in numerous theatres and concert halls with her programme ‘Iconic Ballets for Piano’.
