A stunning nature reserve.
Landgoed Wellenseind is a relatively young estate with unique features. The variety of the landscape is exceptional. The meandering streams, the Reusel and the Raamloop, which converge in the northern part, form the heart of the estate. Their catchment areas are nestled between sand ridges and wooded drifting sands. They lend the area great geological and historical significance. The lowland woods, ravines and water systems in the stream valleys are the estate’s other gems. Wellenseind has been developed since 1915. The old agricultural landscape, with its fields, meadows and heathland, was gradually transformed into a varied woodland area, where the focus came to lie primarily on hunting, fishing and, to a lesser extent, timber production. However, many features still recall the old agricultural past, such as the layout of the plots, the sheepfold and the network of roads and paths. The buildings and their layout bear witness to simplicity and modesty. No grand villas, no stately avenues, but a farmstead that served as a country house. Semi-paved roads connect the various parts of the estate, and functional buildings are scattered across the grounds. Wellenseind is not designed to show off, but derives its appeal from its scenic variety and historical character. The estate is generally regarded as a well-preserved area, where virtually all the old Kempen landscape types come together within a relatively small area (130 hectares). Come and enjoy it!
