Start at Hollandershoeve – approx. 7 kilometres
. Sandy paths wind through the ‘het Beleven’ nature reserve, featuring wide verges and hedgerows: route maps available at de Hollandershoeve and Visit Reusel-De Mierden
. People often get the pronunciation wrong, but it’s easier if you add a hyphen: Bele-ven. There really is plenty to ‘ beleven’ here, especially if you’re a birdwatcher.
Het Beleven lies in a bowl-shaped depression. And to think that until recently, there were only maize fields here. The deep drainage ditches have been filled in and the enriched soil has largely been removed.
The nature reserve has only existed since 2008!
