The list of songs for which Harry Bannink wrote the music is dizzyingly long: the list of lyricists and performers with whom he has worked is just as impressive. The list of songs for which Harry Bannink wrote the music is dizzyingly long: the list of lyricists and performers he has worked with is just as impressive. Many of Bannink’s melodies have become ingrained in the collective memory. Who doesn’t know the songs from ‘Ja Zuster, Nee Zuster’, ‘Wat voor weer zou het zijn in Den Haag?’ or ‘Nikkelen Nelis?’
Many more songs have fallen into oblivion, simply because they were only broadcast once on TV programmes such as ‘De Film van Ome Willem’, ‘Farce Majeure’ and ‘Het Klokhuis’.
Leistra & Van Baest set out in search of these hidden gems. In this way, they turn every concert into a surprising programme featuring many familiar and lesser-known songs. Unrestrained cheerfulness, where the audience can sing along at the top of their voices, is interspersed with quiet, wistful songs meant for listening. Featuring fantastic lyrics by, amongst others, Annie M.G. Schmidt, Willem Wilmink, Hans Dorreststijn, Rob Chrispijn and Jan Boerstoel. Harry Bannink passed away on 19 October 1999, but is brought back to life in this new programme by Leistra & Van Baest.
